FIG Interviews for SA/FT recruiting

Hi all,

I have interviews for FIG groups, I am quite keen on the sector and have a good story for it although I have never worked in FIG during my previous internships. I have a decent understanding of basic FIG valuations/business models but I have no clue what to expect in terms of technical questions.

Can any Analysts/Associates working in FIG that have done FIG specific interviews share some questions they asked or got asked? It can be for all SA/FT/lateral moves.

Thanks in advance!

Depends on the type of FIG you're going to be working with. AM/RIA is going to be very different from banks/insurance companies, etc. https://www.mergersandinquisitions.com/financial-institutions-groups/ take a look at this and tailor your studying appropriately.

Most of the technicals are going to be the same as any other group, but again, all depends on what the groups you're interviewing with are known for. If you're looking at bank/insurance company M&A, focus more on DDM and interest rate spread than DCF valuations, but don't shy away from DCF completely because it is still somewhat relevant. It's not even necessarily about knowing all the nuances of each valuation method, it's more about knowing when it is appropriate to use each, and why.

Also, make sure you keep up with trends in the industry, and current deals. FIG groups are notorious for seeing if you actually have an interest in FIG, rather than "wanting to be an investment banker" (a lot of people would rather be in TMT or something more appealing, but would settle for FIG to be in IB with the hopes of lateraling down the line - even if this is the case, pretend you give a shit about FIG enough to where you can talk about it).

If you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me.
