First Interview at Investment Bank
Hi, I have an interview with an investment bank in Montreal. There will be a panel of 5 people interviewing me at once. The interview itself will be 60 minutes. Then they said i will be put in another room to do a 2-hour case study or test. Does anyone have any advice as to what they might possibly ask me on the test/case? Im not as worried about the actual interview as i am with the test/case. Any ideas, advice, or recommendations as to what i should study for the next week and a half, or learn, or know would be much much appreciated. Thank for all the help so far. J
that sounds awful. i cant believe all those people have an hour to spare doing an interview.
Yeah that sounds like a ridiculous interview process. Haven't ever really heard about a case study for 2 hours for i-banking; that seems more like something m/b/b might do.
All I can say is good luck. Is this a bulge or mm or boutique? If it's a boutique, you better REALLY want to work there because it doesn't seem worth going through those kind of hoops for a low-profile job.
Hello, Im suprised to at the process that i will have to go through. It is one of the bigger investment banks here in Canada. So it will be a high profile job, however,i was also thrown off by the case study part of the interview... i too, have never heard of that. In any case, can you offer some suggestions as to what i should probably refresh myself on, or what i can read for any additional info. Thanks, J
.
Hello, No its not genuity. I have heard of them and would love to interview with them. I think that they go about their interviews according to industry norms. thanks, J
the vault guide for finance interviews is a good start. there is also a guide that deals with case study interviews, might also be worth a look.
i guess the whole credit issue give ibankers too much time on their hands
Thanks, I checked it out.. im gonna buy the book... but in terms of the case studies,.. im still not sure. Any advice as to what i should read, learn, observe, and understand? thanks, J
probably will be something along lines of valuation of a company, maybe building a model and also trying to glean some qualitative strengths/weaknesses of the company but then again, this sounds more like a buyside interview....could be some tests which just test your finance and quant skills as well as maybe a logical reasoning test but im just tossing ideas out there.
ive never heard of a bank doing this kind of interview
check out wetfeet's guide too. You can get it on esnips.com- search "wetfeet guide to investment banking". Brush up on your managerial finance as much as possible. Never had a case interview so can't really help there. Does your college's career center have a subscription to Vault? If so take a look through there; they have descriptions of nearly every reputable bank as well as full guides to finance interviews, investment banking, and case studies.
