First thread here :) M&A work experience
Hi, I'm a first year undergraduate at a non-target in the UK studying economics. Having done a bit of research,i would like a job in M&A in investment banks. I was hoping to find out from here what type of work experiences I should be looking for in regards to this and what is the most effective way to searching for unpaid work experience and something valuable for the field i'm interested in......If you are familiar with the job roles from experience, please state what your opinions of the pros and cons of working as an M&A analyst.

It is true that you ought to do your own research to track down the obvious answers before posting here, and resourcefulness is one of the key differentiators of good analysts. But I think you deserve a break given your age and the fact that this is your first post.
Most people who get offers into investment banking by the end of college spent their four years taking on progressively more relevant and responsible roles in finance. Perhaps you start with a private wealth internship between your first and second years, then work for a small fund or boutique bank between your second and third year. By the summer before your last year in college you will want to have a summer analyst position at a major investment bank, since what you do in this final internship is likely to dictate the full-time role you ultimately take.
Yea, he's in the UK, we only go to uni for 3 weeks. A key differentiator of good analysts is attention to detail...
Dude I agree that you should do a cheeky little search first but anyway, some quick and dirty advice: you're from a non-target, you don't have access to internships at banks yet, get on linkedin talk to all alumni (big 4 included) network etc.. and get some (read: any) finance experience now! and don't ask a single question on here again until you're positive you've searched M&I and here for it, at your stage someone will have asked it before.
