First Year Analyst Lateral Experience

Off-topic sorry, but how long was your interview process? Going through lateral recruiting as well and just wanted an idea (it feels like they're taking forever).
I had a single first round and then a virtual superday shortly thereafter.
Congrats! Was this for a BB or MM? It seems like everywhere I interview has 3+ rounds
How did you start the lateral process?
Starting remote sucks as you dont get to meet anyone in person and it's very hard to build rapport. Could be worth it though depending on group

Thoughts on moving from a Mizuho or Nomura to a Citi/CS coverage group in NYC? Worth it for PE Exits if you have 1.5 years of experience at the first firm?
Yeah I would, as long as you like the group/culture - especially if it's Mizuho
Agreed regarding building rapport with the team. Part of the reason I wanted to move is I never developed any connections with my current team (due to remote work and not really clicking with them) in addition to the role itself.
Lateral hires have had a MUCH easier time than first years. It still sucks not knowing anyone, but you're not flying in completely blind so it's not as bad as someone fresh out of school who knows almost nothing AND knows no one.
a lot of laterals are 1st years though. 2020 grads 6 months in looking to lateral

Thanks, this makes sense and is somewhat reassuring. I had second thoughts after reading a lot of the commentary written by new first year analysts.
What type of firm (BB/EB/MM)? Where are you lateraling from, and what's your motivation for making the move?
I'm moving for two reasons: don't like my current team (never met most of them in person) and a better role. Not coming from nor moving to a BB/EB.
Congrats on your offer! What makes it a better role? i.e. pay, prestige, sector you want to be in, group culture,etc. or combination of all?
If you are trying to lateral one or two months into the job, what kind of interviews should you expect? I know this doesn’t happen often but also do know of someone who moved from lower BB to top BB 3 months into full-time

Lateraled from consulting. Technicals were very light and was skewed towards fit interviews with MDs. Did not understand why it was so simple. Now after three consecutive 3am nights, I understand why ... firms just needed bodies. One part of my process which I got positive feedback on was making it clear why I was interested in the coverage the group does. Craft a story about why you are interested in the industry / industries the group focuses on.
Knowing what you know now- do you still think it was worth it (factoring in better exits/comp/whatever you were looking for to begin with)
Wanted to get more color on how bonuses are affected if you lateral as an analyst halfway through year. Know majority of banks are on august timeline for analysts so curious if the new bank pays a full bonus once you've lateraled or it becomes a 'stub" and half of what you would have gotten. And how you rationalize leaving 50-70k on the table for that first bonus in August given the work you've done leading in?
At the MM i’m at, since we started late, our “stub” bonus was calculated by giving us a full year bonus figure, and then multiplying it by the % of the year we had worked. Probably would be a similar situation.
