For those considering delaying

Banks and firms on the street are offering people $$$ to delay their analyst start date. It sounds like a great offer—chill out for 6-12 months and get paid to do nothing. Id be careful though. In 08, some firms did this, and (at least one) later asked incoming analysts to reinterview. I know of at least one person who ended up not getting their offer…and it completely changed their trajectory.

Maybe firms are more ethical nowadays, but I doubt it. Firms in trouble enough to ask cheap analysts to push back their start date could be in an even worse position come 6 months.
