GE Capital to IB

Hey all, so I've started considering other options in case I don't get that 2018 BB IBD SA position. Does anyone here have any experience with the GE Finance internship program, and is it a feeder into their Financial Leadership Development Program? Would 2 years in that program be a good foundation for an M7 MBA, and then try and get into BB IBD as an Associate?

I know a friend of a friend that I connected with sometime last year that went from GE Capital to CS industrials group through pure luck. He then decided to make the jump and without burning bridges was completely honest and sincere about the jump. One of the partners enjoyed working with the guy. It worked and then one of senior partners put him through an MD there and the rest was history..

I didn't know GE Capital have real estate arm. Should have applied in my previous recruiting cycle... (but I am specifically interested in real estate)

As I am reading their site now, they provide structured / mezzanine financing for real estate acquisitions. I think it definitely will not be a minus for BB, as financial modeling is pretty much the same.

so far i don't have other options, and this one isn't exactly in the bag either, but hopefully something along the lines of a typical finance internship at a large company would be my other options.

I've worked with the GE Capital RE guys before. They're good, highly respected sponsor in the Real Estate space. As a sophmore it's a great internship - I'm going to go as far as to guess you're black or something with the quality of internship you're getting as a sophmore.

GE Capital RE definitely puts you ahead of 95% of resumes for a junior year internship position. You could parlay it into a banking role in a Real Estate group or a trading role in a CMBS group. The real estate skill set is very valuable. Fuck, I read resumes, that name on your resume would be more than enough for me to flag you for an internship offer.

I'd say if you want to do iBanking full time, try to do more financing/capital markets stuff than acquisitions or property management, and network with the people at banks you work with on the financings. Keep in mind that GE is more than a stepping stone to banking - GE is the buy side. If you find solid mentors and you want to do real estate, you're better off starting your career at GE (if they'll have you) full time than doing banking.
