Getting a GS Internship through a Global Head Referral

I was able to get a 30 minute phone call with a GS global head, and he promised to try to help me get an internship. Here's the catch, he's not in Ibanking and my GPA is just a scratch above 3.0. However, I do also have pretty solid work experience (worked part time at a top 15 commercial bank as an analyst).

This considered, what are my chances of getting an internship, or at least an interview?

Because this guy can verbally 'promise' a hundred other kids a job at his firm but verbal does not equal a written offer with a dotted line to sign.

Your GPA isnt impressive, your experience is hardly/somewhat related, and some guy who is 1000x busier than you and probably forgot your name is your lead? Even if he goes to bat for you hard, he may successfully get you an interview, but I doubt you would get much further.

Good luck, but your chances are slim if Im being optimistic.
