Goldman IB Superday Switch

i got a goldman superday for ib but it’s for financing (ecm, levfin, corp derivatives, etc.). i couldnt give less of a fuck about this because i wanted to do industry coverage and m&a. plus, isnt this basically back office

can i ask hr if i can switch to a classic superday instead?

not sure if you're shitposting or not here, but derivatives structuring is a great skillset and so is LevFin. The latter is especially good for PC exits, but PE is still very much in reach. Ask HR, but no matter what, do amazing in your interview. GS is synonymous with IB and if you want you can probably recruit anywhere you want this cycle ("Hey JPM I have an offer from GS...") or for full-time

thanks for the advice, not shitposting just confused cuz i didnt network w anyone in financing. do u think me asking hr to switch will hurt my chances for both?

All about your phrasing: if you say "i dont want this role," they'll probably think you're a douche. If you say, "this is an incredible opportunity, but I applied with the intent of working in industry coverage, particularly X industry, and mentioned this in my hirevue, could this still be a possibility?" then they'll probably be more favorable to you or say oops we made a mistake. Either way, GS is GS. Internal mobility is possible anywhere if you're good at your job.

Any of the three mentioned offer a great skillset and starting point for banking - if you are only interested in M&A, then apply in other places. However, starting in LevFin or ECM is a strong point. You should do more research to understand what those divisions actually do and see if any of the skillset or experience matches what you want from your future. But no, non of those are back office roles. It would be ridiculous to say so.
