Goldman Sachs Behaviorals SA
I know there are specific threads detailing the experiences of those who did the GS HireVue or those who were fortunate enough to go through a Super Day. However, I have found that several of those threads are riddled with trolls and lots of (intentional) misinformation. For those who have done a Goldman Sachs HireVue or have gone through a Super Day, what are the behaviorals you encountered beyond the standard "Tell me about yourself" or "Why IB?"?
Went through the 2021 process and thankfully got an offer from GS.
I'm not going to disclose any specifics because that'd be unfair, but the experience was just like all other banks in terms of behavioral questions.
1) Know your story super super well. Literally a ton of my questions came from my experiences 2) Know why you want to do IB and probably what groups interest you at their bank 3) Be interesting, for example I spoke about how I ran a few unique clubs, coached athletes, and facilitated intercollegiate events (separates me from other candidates) 4) Bring a ton of energy and a big smile man, it goes a long way
Good Luck!
I'm a female but thanks for the insight. So you would say your SD process was highly geared to your resume itself?
Haha I'm sorry! Yes it definitely was. Good luck with your process!
+1 to everything above but really want to reinforce how much your personality needs to shine through in order to get an offer. I accepted one for 2021 as well and one thing my interviewers kept mentioning over my congratulatory call was that “you’d be a great fit”, will “work very well for the team” and other iterations that noted fit was the deciding factor (even though the technical acumen must be there as a “check box” regardless).
The GS process is notorious for being mostly about fit considering that every single person who gets a HV is 9.9x/10 got all the SA level technicals DOWN and then some. You’d be surprised how many super smart finance people are just asshats because they have some superiority complex/think they know it all and that this attitude clearly comes out in how you carry yourself in an interview. Even if you do know it all, stay humble and come across as someone who’s eager to learn everything that they can, rather than trying to noticing you know everything about banking. Good luck!
