Goodwill Calculation in LBO and M&A

Hi,

I have been practicing modeling for a while now and have noticed different ways of allocating goodwill across different tutorials (BIWS, Wall Street Prep, etc.) and also in an M&A vs. LBO scenario.

This is confusing me, and hopefully, someone can clarify????

I am assuming the allocation should be the same. Right? What is the proper way?

Also, I have been trying to find some formal academic book on modeling and it seems like most books cover the precedent transactions, comparables, and DCF. Some of them also cover LBO, BUT NONE of them cover M&A models. Why is that? Are there any books that cover M&A modeling? also, what about FIG modeling?
