GPA and Background checks

Offered an internship for summer and during application process minimum GPA requirement was 3.0 (I had a 3.1 fo fully honest). I just dropped to 2.92 GPA this semester at very competitive university. I was working hard but continue to be a terrible test taker. The issue - do I self report that I dropped below a 3.0 to find out if they will still honor my offer or wait to see if they ask when they do background check? Problem is they don't do background check for months so if they dropped me it would be too late for me to get another job, take spring term etc. On the flip, the offer letter did specially state maintaining a 3.0 gpa in it it just referred to background checks etc. Thoughts?? I'm torn.

edit: sorry misread your post.

" the offer letter did specially state maintaining a 3.0 gpa in it it just referred to background checks etc. Thoughts?? I'm torn."

If the letter specifically mentioned maintaining a 3.0 in future semesters, then yes they could rescind, although I'm not sure how likely it is since you did not lie about your gpa during the application (I'm assuming) and It did meet the requirements

HI thanks for your note. The offer letter did not say anything specific about gpa. The 3.0 requirement showed up when I applied for the job as a minimum requirement. The offer letter only specified that they would do background checks including criminal and education and a drug test. I did not lie on anything on my paperwork.
