Greenhill vs Rothschild - NYC

Sophomore fortunate enough to get to choose between Greenhill M&A vs Rothschild. Both for NYC

I like Greenhill's generalist analyst program as I don't want to commit to an industry yet. I would like to get some exposure to technology and because Roth's tech team is based in LA I'm gravitating towards taking Greenhill.

Any advice for how to choose between the two? How do exit opps, comp, etc. compare? Thanks monkeys!

2022 Deal Flow:

Rothschild M&A U.S. (~$58 Billion in Total Transaction Value / 93 Deals) vs. Greenhill M&A (~$23 Billion in Total Transaction Value / 19 Deals)

Culture:

Rothschild > Greenhill

Rothschild (from what I heard) has better people, generally more friendly, outgoing, more normal.

Compensation:

Base at Rothschild is $120k and I think Greenhill is $110k (or $100k). Bonuses were good at Rothschild, Greenhill delayed paying them out and numbers weren't great.

Exits:

Historically Greenhill has had better exits than Rothschild U.S.

Verdict:

You are basically picking between a bank on the decline (Greenhill) vs. one on the rise (Rothschild U.S.). Tech activity is pretty dead right now, both programs are generalist so you should be able to explore different industries (and restructuring if you go with Rothschild).

Greenhill bonuses were greater than Rothschild this year lol, Greenhill has more UMM exits than Roths. If ur gonna exit banking, take Greenhill. If u want A2A, take roths. Easy as that.
