hi guys,
im starting ft in toronto and i have the opportunity to either focus on oil and gas or be a generalist. which has better deal flow now and going forward?
also if i focus on oil and gas will i have to relocate to calgary in the future?
thanks
or Houston...jk
you an analyst or an associate in all seriousness?
Lol. I'm starting as an analyst.
Never been to Calgary but I hear it's a horrible place to be. That and I personally think it'd be a good idea to start out in something general so you don't limit yourself early on.
Theres no way you will cover O&G from Toronto and actually close a deal. Be a generalist if you don't want to move.
Thanks for the input.
Yep, O&G will be lead you to Calgary at some point. Stay generalist if you want to stay in Toronto.
I'd think you would want to aim for mining in Toronto over general, but then again there is more happening in O&G right now. My office executes energy out of both Toronto and Calgary, but head count is shifting to Calgary.
Oil & gas isn't huge in Toronto, and yes it will probably lead you to Calgary. I would start out as a generalist - don't limit yourself early on in your career.
