GS FT Recruiting

Heard from friend on campus that GS doesnt really recruit FT with most FT hires coming from internal mobility especially to FIG, TMT, IND - is this true. wondering whether it was worth networking there for FT?

You don’t see as many summers preffing HC, NR, CRG, CMG, or RE when trying to do internal mobility (mostly for obvious reasons). I've seen people move from classic coverage groups into TMT/FIG, and also from financing groups. TMT/FIG/IND have also taken ex-MF summers with no return offer.

At GS, the internal mobility process usually kicks off about 3/4 of the way through the summer. They will notify your BUM once you're in the process.

Hey excuse my ignorance but can you enlighten on the "obvious reasons"

I'm a junior so I'm not particularly familiar with internal IB politics but am curious by what you mean

TMT, Industrials, and FIG tend to see more summer analysts leave for buyside roles like Citadel’s associate program, giving them a reputation for strong exits. This turnover opens up more full-time spots, making them attractive for internal mobility: someone moved from Industrials to FIG this year.

On the other hand, groups like HC, NR, and CRG are generally less sought after and have fewer openings each year since fewer people leave, which makes it harder to move into other groups from them.
