GS/MS IBD vs BX/KKR credit

Received summer analyst offers from one of each of the listed firms and appreciate any and all pieces of advice. More interested in credit than PE/other buyside exits and hope to move to the west coast from nyc at some point.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, if you're more interested in credit than PE or other buyside exits, and you have offers from GS/MS IBD and BX/KKR credit, the decision should align with your long-term goals and preferences:

  1. Interest in Credit: If your primary interest lies in credit, BX/KKR credit would likely be the better fit. These firms are highly regarded in the credit space, and starting there would position you well for a long-term career in credit investing or related fields.

  2. Geographical Mobility: Both GS/MS and BX/KKR have strong global presences, but BX/KKR credit might offer more direct pathways to credit-focused roles on the West Coast, given their established credit platforms and networks.

  3. Brand and Exit Opportunities: GS/MS IBD provides a broader platform with strong exit opportunities across various fields, including PE, VC, and corporate roles. However, if you're set on credit, BX/KKR credit would give you more specialized experience and credibility in that niche.

  4. Work Environment and Culture: Consider the culture and work environment at each firm. BX/KKR credit might have a more buyside-oriented culture, while GS/MS IBD will have a more traditional investment banking environment.

  5. Long-Term Goals: If you're certain about staying in credit, BX/KKR credit is the more direct route. If you're still exploring or want optionality, GS/MS IBD could provide a broader foundation.

Ultimately, if credit is your passion and you're confident in that path, BX/KKR credit aligns better with your interests and goals. If you value optionality and are open to exploring other areas, GS/MS IBD might be worth considering.
