Guggenheim FT 2023

Gugg recently started screenings/first rounds for FT. If anyone could shed some light on their process, interview experience (techs/behav), etc it would be much appreciated

Insight from anyone who has gone through SA or FT recruiting with Gugg before would be greatly appreciated as well

Is your first round a writing sample? I saw a similar post about this today but for an EB. Never heard of a first round being a writing assessment

Yeah no clue what it's about. I already accepted an offer though, so I probably won't do the assessment. For a MM PE interview I did, I had to do a writing assessment. Was basically given a teaser on a company and had to write an email summarizing the opportunity, diligence topics, merits/weaknesses etc. in 45 minutes. No clue what it'd be for a banking though

Just received a Super Day Invite for the Chicago office this morning after completing writing assessment on Tuesday.

Was there any phone screening or interview after the writing assessment? Certainly appears to be an untraditional recruiting process

Not going to tell you what it is, there's no way to prepare for it. Not difficult at all, don't worry about it.

Is the Chicago PEAG group just another name for their MM group or are they separate?

I placed in PEAG for next summer. First round was a 30 min phone call with lots of technicals. Super day was mostly fit questions with one hard technical interview. I could tell they cared more about fit than technicals though. My super interview technicals covered stuff like net operating losses and applying the 400 Ib questions with a case study example. Hope that is helpful.

Do you think this likely a tight process? From what it sounds like, there must not be too many candidates that were selected for the writing assessment (considering the next round is a Super Day).

Does anyone have any insight on the middle market (private equity advisory) group in NYC? I know the team is based out of Chicago but am interested to know more about their presence in NYC

PEAG here.

It’s one global team — people in NY, Boston, Atlanta, and CHI all work across offices as one staffing pool.

The PEAG group leaders are in Chicago but there’s a major presence in NY (plus the large-cap coverage teams, restructuring, and PCA / ECM / LevFin).

You won’t lose out on connectivity in any meaningful way going to NY. There’s a lot of senior associates who went from CHI to NY too, which helps connectivity.

The group is big enough that your day-to-day will be more impacted by your specific DTs (and clients) vs. overall “office” culture.

Every office has chill people and hardos. I would say that the PEAG team has one of the better cultures I’ve seen (relatively high % chill people). Even the hardos in PEAG don’t yell / aren’t rude or mean, they just grind.

The tone from the two PEAG co-heads (ex WB rainmakers) goes a long way to keeping a non cut-throat culture. They are cool guys who like their families and want the team to succeed. The group is their “baby” and they want to see it continue the amazing growth going forward which means retaining people and doing great work.

Hope this helps

Thank you for the insight. Can you provide a little more context on the group’s mandates? Do you guys work independently on particular deals or it's more of a collaborative effort depending on the industry or product group?

Spoke with a few TMT bankers who mentioned they work closely with you guys. Any additional color would be great - thank you!

How big is the PEAG ATL group? I have a Superday and just wondering how many SA they will even take. I love the people I have spoken to so far so I would really like this opportunity to plan out. I gave up some others on the same day because I feel like I would really like to work there.

Any update here for both NYC and Chicago PEAG/Middle Market group processes?

Can confirm offers were sent out a few hours after the SD. If you haven’t heard back, there is a chance you are on hold. Best to continue pushing and not get hung up on hearing back

can confirm as well. assessment --> 15 - 30min technical screen --> SD

recruiter mentioned the superday would be in person SD
