Guys i need help with a CV

Ok so somehow, someway, don't ask how, I found a person in NYC who says she can shop my resume around to some major Ibanks. She said send her my resume and a cover letter. Problem: What do I write on this cover letter? I've never written such an ambigious cover letter. Advice, tips? generic cover letter links lol?

It should highlight your strengths. It should give the reader a reason to turn the page and look at your resume. It should tell a story as to why you are considering IB at this point in your career/life.

Hey there, something about having someone "shop" my resume around would make me uncomfortable.

Who is this woman, a recruiter? How knowledgeable and resourceful is she in the business? What is her functional area of expertise? What success rate has she had placing candidates? Where has she most recently placed people? At what level does she place people? Who has she placed recently? Can she share a referral whom you could call to get the scoop on how she works? Someone that's reputable, would be happy to offer that up and answer all these types of Qs.

What makes me nervous about folks randomly having their resumes "shopped around" is that you lose a level of control over who sees your resume. If it's someone that's simply going to cold call your resume into a few shops, don't waste your time or more importantly your reputation. A recruiter shouln't just cold call your resume around. They should reveal the name of the bank and to whom they are sharing your resume and get your express permission to do so before they begin randomly selling you on the street.

Also, a good recruiter shouldn't want you to write an ambiguous cover letter. Most recruiters prepare a profile page that will include a brief narrative about you to their best clients. There shouldn't be a need for you to write a cover letter at all.

Don't mean to burst any bubbles, just want to share some wisdom...

You guys are right. all I know is she does work on Wall street and I don't know her, but she's my mothers friends friend. So I guess connections are always useful, no matter how far of a reach they may seem.

If she's your mom's friend's friend, that is not a recruiter. If she actually works at a bank, and wants to show your resume to some friends, I'd go through with it.

I think the reason people were concerned was that it is pretty shady if a recruiter is willing to "shop" around a freshman's resume.
