Has imposter syndrome ever crept in?

Picture this:

A guy, me, raised in a neighborhood where EBITDA was never a thing

We weren't born into a world of Wall Street suits and stock market jargon

Nope, it was blue-collar hustle and day-to-day survival

School?

Well, I was no valedictorian, but I wasn't a flop either

Average grades, average dreams – that was my thing

But somehow, amid the sea of stellar transcripts

I managed to snag a ticket to the big leagues

First day – let's just say 4 screens felt more intimidating than anything I'd ever seen...

As I sat there, rubbing shoulders with Ivy League graduates and "sons of"

Imposter Syndrome started kicking...

"Dude, do you really belong here?"

"You're not cut from the Ivy League cloth"

I brushed it off...

But it lingered

Like a background hum, it played alongside my daily tasks

The deal analyses, the late-night spreadsheet marathons – all haunted by that nagging self-doubt

But you know what?

Over time, I realized something...

Imposter Syndrome isn't a sign of weakness...

It's a F mark of ambition

Sure, I'm no finance genius

I'm a guy who came from the unknown, walked through the towering office doors, and faced the same fears you have

Here's the twist though:

Those elite guys?

They weren't born with golden calculators in hand

They worked their way up, wrestling their own doubts along the way

So, the next time you're nursing that cup of coffee,

and Imposter Syndrome kicks into your thoughts my friend...

REMEMBER - You're not alone

We're all dancing to that same tune

As for me, well...

I'm still that guy, scribbling away...

Imposter Syndrome?

It's just a backseat driver now,

Reminding me that discomfort is the price you pay for progress in this industry

Honestly I feel this. My bank is a non US Balance sheet and we don’t have a massive M&A franchise. I’m in Coverage and sometimes when shooting the shit with friends at other shops that have a more established m&a presence i feel like I don’t belong. Just part of it I guess.
