Headhunters - Currently preparing for FT IB interviews

Hello all,

I'm currently preparing for ft ib interviews for campus recruiting in Sept./Oct.

I've seen some people post about how they got ft IB interviews from BB through head hunters (and that they were contacted because firms were interested in their specific skills like languages, computer skills, etc.).

I wouldn't think it'd be common to get in touch with banks through head hunters at the analyst level since they recruit heavily through campus recruiting.

So my question is

1) how likely is it to get connected for interviews with banks through headhunters, based on your/other people's experience?

2) What are some head hunters that you know of? It won't cost me anything to upload CV there anyway no matter how unlikely. I only know of efinancial careers at the moment...

Thanks!

Headhunters (at least in London) really only work with people who have some experience - the BB's hire out of the top schools, they don't care so much about work experience, just want smart, hardworking and teachable people. Most of the headhunters are trying to snatch the 1st year top BB analysts and place them in PE/HF, or take more seasoned bankers/investors and place them into other banks and funds.

Think about the supply vs. demand - for most IBs at entry level, all they need to do is put out a 'hiring now' sign and they have 100 or so good applicants from good schools that they can tap without paying a headhunter. However, a hedge fund with a specific focus looking to hire a 1-3 yrs seasoned pre-mba analyst is in a tougher boat - there are many applicants but few with the right skills - thus they'll typically use a headhunter to sift things out for them.

I'll say too, even with a headhunter it's pretty competitive to get interviews bc everyone with the headhunting firms (that is the ones that they take seriously) has pristine resumes. Headhunters when mandated to find someone will typically present a short list of the best, and then the funds/banks will pick from that - the competition is pretty fierce.

I still think that going through your network is the best way to get interviews.
