Help finding a Sophomore summer internship!

Whats up!

I am a current sophomore at an Ivy League school with solid IBD recruitment. However, most of this recruitment is focused only on juniors. As a sophomore I have been absolutely destroyed in terms of job apps for this upcoming 2018 summer. I've applied to over 100 different positions through my school's Handshake (job posting site) and have heard back from maybe 2-3 firms and only gotten 1 offer from a very small RE firm. I've been cold-emailing people throughout the year but have been getting dinged constantly. I have a solid resume with a 3.8+ GPA in the undergraduate business school, an AM internship from last summer and am a member of 2 of the top finance clubs on campus. What am I doing wrong?

If anyone has any advice for what I can do to find an internship for this summer that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Go to small local firms/banks in your city and speak with them in person. I'm sure they'd be happy to have a kid from town with an Ivy degree. Worst case scenario, you will have to go for an unpaid internship -- which wouldn't be too bad, since you can just live at your house (no rent expenses, etc.) -- and no need to mention that on your resume. Honestly, you can spin anything into a good experience on your resume, as long as it's remotely related to finance, and you know your sh*t.

Good luck!
