UChicago does not have an undergraduate business program, though you can take courses at Booth. I think the same goes for NW and Duke, but not sure on that one.

Spuds is right in not selling yourself short on Ivies, but not in the pain of writing new essays. Yes, it's a hassle, but let's be honest, you're not writing a new essay for each college anyway (except maybe for the Why [this school]? Question). It's not too late to get another teacher rec. Beg if you have to. And apply to every single school you like. You have literally nothing to lose by doing so- high school isn't hard and you got winter break coming up, so get cranking.

Mccombs places really well into Houston IBD, not quite as well for NY or other large hubs. Michigan and NYU place into NYC decently, but the thing about NYU is that literally every kid at Stern wants to do IBD.

If you're in-state at Texas, you should not be considering any other state schools.

I consider NYU a state school and a shitty investment at 60k / year + high cost of living, unless you're really into being broke, living in East Village, and banging hipster girls, who will hate rape you for being in Stern.

For good privates: I think your tangibles are about par for Cornell and Georgetown, and slightly under for Duke. Definitely apply to those 3

Why aren't you applying to Ivy's?

The answer to your question is 1) network 2) get involved 3) beef up your resume 4) repeat -happypantsmcgee WSO is not your personal search function.

Hmm, thanks for the advice. Is UT McCombs that good? I see it as a safety unless i get into BHP.

I agree the cost of Stern is ridiculous, but it's an opportunity that I would never have at UT. Most firms and banks that undergrads go to from McCombs are the ones in Houston and that doesn't really appeal to me.

Hmm I agree with that, but I don't know if I can get into BHP.

If I don't, do you think going to Stern is worth the debt? I'll probably have to pay roughly 50 grand a year so 200k total.

Whether going to Stern is worth the debt is an issue that only you and your parents can decide. There is no guarantee that Stern will definitely lead to an investment banking job though. Both BHP and Wharton send about 30% of the kids to IB, and I think Stern is lower than that. What will you do if you graduate from Stern with 200k of debt but no IB job?

I almost have the exact same profile as yourself.

I am currently applying to 6 ivies, Mich, Duke, GeorgeTown and Michigan State.

You really should look into the ivies. Depending on what your parents make they're cheap to attend. (All depends on your parents estimated financial contribution)

Don't sell yourself short on the ivies. You don't have to be a 4.0 2400 and cured cancer. My thinking is just apply to a bunch and someone will take you.

Hope it works out. I am assuming your a junior as the deadlines for this year are in about 20 days.

I would second what Spuds said about the Ivies. Ivies give great financial aid and have decent IB placement. Also, Georgetown has a wonderful undergraduate business program with decent IB placement and good financial aid.

Well good luck. At this point I wouldn't advise applying to more than 3-4 schools.

The essays are fucking brutal. I have written 5-6 so far and I need to write another 5-6.

Hope you got your teacher recs and stuff in already.

you never know, nyu might give you aid. The good thing for you is mccombs is a pretty good school, especially if you're instate = cheap tuition, +if you get into bhp. You might want to consider cornell (its the easiest ivy to get in and I think your stats are above what they look at). I would recommend applying to some ivies/reaches though, I never did and I kind of regret it even though I probably would have been denied.

I think i'm applying EDII for Stern. If I don't get enough aid then I can just reject them anyways is what I'm thinking.

Also, the thing about applying to Ivies is that I never really considered it. I only have one teacher recommendation saved on CommonApp right now so it's too late to get another and most Ivies require two. Not to mention my SAT II subject tests are horrid.

Right now I just want to find the best undergrad school I can get into. I don't know if McCombs is good for undergrad, but I know that their graduate program is not well known at all.

Pardon?

I can tell by your name that you're from Texas, so you'll obviously be biased for McCombs. But I know for a fact that an MBA from McCombs is not prestigious at all. I've also heard that the only banks and firms that hire from McCombs are the ones in Houston and that is not my target.

Haha, do what you want bud, but I thought we were talking undergrad? Listen, the schools you listed are regional targets. Where do you want to live post undergrad? UT will give you TExas and some chance at NY. The others are a better shot at NY with NYU being the highest since it's right in the mix.

IMO it all comes down to where do you want to work and how much debt to you want to have.

YOu know for a fact that an MBA from McCombs is not presitigous? You can take prestige and shove it up your pretentious ass. Not being a dick, but you have a lot of real world experience to acquire.

This thread is just funny. A kid from Texas with the handle "Communist" who's asking for advice - while shitting on MBA programs. On top of that, you are asking where you should attend...and you haven't even APPLIED.

Listen kid, here is some advice: apply broadly to all the schools you mentioned and then some...wait to see where you are ACCEPTED...and then come here and ask your question. We will be happy to help. Good luck.

Duke does not have undergraduate business program, but they have a finance minor or finance concentration in the Economics department. Their OCR and alumni base are huge.

I don't understand why you would limit yourself to only non-Ivys. Obviously, price is not the issue if you are considering NYU.

Last time I checked McCombs OCR (as in today), the following banks recruit for NY: Evercore, BAML, Macquarie Holdings, MS, Blackstone, GS, Citi, DB, Greenhill, and Wells Fargo. The rest (JPM, Barclays, UBS, etc) were in Houston. Do you even know what these acronyms stand for? Every major BB recruits at McCombs. That's fine if you don't want to go to McCombs. More spots for us. I do agree that Texas MBA is not good.

If you even mildly care about anything related to the "college experience" then UT Austin offers an experience that NYU will never have. And every person on this board will agree with this. It seems you already have made up your mind in the back of your head.

Anyway, enough of me trying to sell UT.

Since you are instate, this is what I recommend: McCombs BHP Ross Stern McIntire McCombs

I also second the suggestion to apply to Ivys.

Are there any others that I should consider applying to? Which schools do I have the best chance with considering my stats? My essays will be solid, but they will probably not stand out since I am a bad writer.
You should try www.collegeconfidential.com.

Thank you everyone for the help! I really appreciate it. I also apologize for offending any of you by my critique of UT. I guess I just take it for granted and was unaware of how good of the program actually is.

can u get fin aid from NYU Stern? If you can get the money from them, NYU Stern is the best option. U Texas is also good and it has a TON of hot girls, so that is a HUGE plus. Michigan is good, but the weather sucks there, no doubt, and their out of state tuition is ridiculous so it's not worth it. (if u are from michigan, it is worth it)

Weather's not even that bad here you pussies.
