HH asking for salary

Hi all,

I had an intro call with one of the typical PE HH. They asked for my salary and bonus, saying they were gauging sizes across the street. Understand it was probably to place me in a performance bracket, but just wondering if you all have gotten this question before and if we should divulge. Generally, my thought is to not disclose.

Thanks!

I would recommend not disclosing. in general at the more junior levels people are trying to get info, and there is little/no upside for you - basically what are you getting from giving this information?

I started sharing SOME information with recruiters when I became more senior to let them know I wasn’t going to be leaving without a real bump. But I would only do that when you know you are near the top of the comp for most of these roles.

Yeah I understand, if you have standard comp at the analyst level then it isn’t a huge deal, if not then it isn’t useful. You can also say you have standard street comp and were top/middle/whatever bucket if that is the info they want. Then you can add you can discuss comp when opportunities come up but that you are looking for standard PE (LMM, MF, etc) comp.

It all really depends on where you are in your career. As someone else pointed out if you comp is standard then not a huge risk, if not, I wouldn’t disclose much and keep things generic.
