How an entry level law position will look for trying FT IB
Will banks look down upon taking lower-paying legal positions that pay less? It seems on paper like the analyst equivalent for law (IE: MBA associates = Law school associates, this at least appears like the analyst equivalent). In addition it's at a large white-shoe corporate law firm that seems to do a lot of corporate finance and capital markets stuff, although the position itself is not anywhere near the hands-on equivalent it would be for financial analysts.
I'm looking to get into banking FT and I have summer analyst experience at a BB and now I'm trying to figure out if I like law better. In general, do bankers look down on the law path? Not really sure what the perception is regarding getting back into FT banking if you take a step down to try law.
Are you talking about being a paralegal??
There is no "entry-level" position in law that is equivalent to an analyst. The lowest level in law is a post-law school associate, anything under that and you aren't licensed to practice law.
To answer your question in general terms, people jump from law to finance on a relatively frequent basis (I'm not saying it is common per se, just that it is not unusual or surprising when it happens). But I don't think being a paralegal would be particularly helpful in trying to facilitate a move to banking.
If you are talking about some other kind of position than a paralegal then you should clarify.
