How big are your models?

Currently at a BB, industry coverage group. My hardo analysts dumps files with like 70 tabs and 1500 rows per tab for me to review, so I just export it as a CSV file and plug it into ChatGPT and tell it to summarize it for me.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's common for analysts to encounter overly complex models with excessive tabs and rows. However, a more efficient approach is to streamline the model. For instance, in the "Leaving IB Soon, Final Rants" thread, a user shared their method of trimming down models to include only essential sections like:

  1. Assumptions (growth rates, multiples, interest rates, etc.)
  2. Sources and Uses
  3. Financials (to calculate cash flow)
  4. Cash Flow Calculation
  5. Cash and Debt Schedule
  6. Exit and Returns Calculation
  7. Sensitivities

All of this is organized in one tab, from top to bottom, with a manageable column width and around 300-500 rows. This approach not only saves time but also makes the model easier to review and replicate. It might be worth suggesting this streamlined method to your team to avoid unnecessary complexity.
