How do I get staffed on the best deals?

I am going to be working in a tech m&a group that does a lot of ECM deals (IPOs, etc.), but also has a degree of M&A coverage. How can I make sure that I am staffed on good and interesting deals? Will it potentially be competitive to get the right staffing?

Seriously, that's basically it. You can express an interest in certain types of deals, but not right away- only when you've established yourself as a star analyst and someone who is skilled at those sorts of deals. You want good staffings, this is how it would go:

be the best analyst you can be---->they will notice, and put you on some better deals/you can express interest in some when it's clear to them how good you are---->do said deals and gain experience in them---->when similar good deals come around again, you have already expressed interest in them, you have experience in them, and they know you're good enough to handle them---->get staffed on more great deals.

Seriously, just put your head down, be the best analyst you can be, and don't ask for anything you're not qualified to ask for/you don't deserve too early.
