How does this path to investment banking sound?

I'm a junior accounting major who just had informational interviews with bankers, equity researchers, and advisers, and think I now want to go for banking instead of the auditing path I was planning on before. I have a 3.7 GPA from a state school and am looking to do my Master of Accounting at a better school like Notre Dame after I graduate. I am trying to land an internship in valuation right now. It seems like it would transfer over to banking very well because I would learn a lot about modeling. My current plan is do that part time valuation internship with big 4 audit summer leaderships this summer. This fall, I could apply for summer analyst positions are boutique banks and in the spring, intern in big 4 audit. It seems like this would be the best way for me to keep both doors open and make sure I make the right career choice. I was hoping for feedback on if this is a reasonable plan and if it's okay to think I can get a banking job.

Why don't you apply to SA spots in IB right away? Your GPA (if it is your cumulative) will get you interviews. Get your technicals down (lots of places online that can help you with IB interview technicals) and I am sure you can land a spot.

For the time being, valuation is great experience, and audit is not. I have yet to see someone do anything with audit. Best case scenario for audit kids is to get into the deals team for a big4 and lateral over yeeears later.

Good luck :)

Oh damn, I didn't really think it would be possible to apply to SA spots in IB right away. Yeah, I have a 3.7 cumulative and 4.0 major Accounting GPA. I'd love to land an SA spot next next summer.

I will definitely shoot hard to land that valuation internship then.

Thank you :)
