How much does being a minority help in the application process?

I am currently going through recruiting and wondering how much being Hispanic will affect my chances. Obviously it is not going to hurt me, but I was thinking of applying to some EB that I know a normal candidate in my position would have no chance at. Background: SEC think(Auburn, Ole Miss, Mizzou), 3.97GPA, decent extra curricular, solid relevant internship this summer.

If you go through diversity recruiting, it will help you a lot. A friend of mine is hispanic, goes to a no name school, has a good but not great GPA, and got a PJT/Moelis offer. He probably killed the technicals, but he had a lot against him as well. The important part about that was diversity recruiting. Most banks are done with diversity recruiting. You've lost any advantage you may have had at those banks; look into the banks that are still doing diversity recruiting.

It doesn’t help as much as you would think.

Yes. Almost every bank has a diversity process, but those slots are very limited, and you are competing not only with kids in your class, but also with awesome URMs from every other good school and white women who will eat up a lot of spots.
