How much does having a finance degree matter?
I majored in liberal arts in undergrad. Didn’t think much of it at the time, as I was planning on going to law school.
I stumbled into finance as a junior to meet some GE requirements, and ended up liking it enough to give IB a shot. Lucked my way into a MM shop and later lateraled to a BB. 5 years in, I’m contemplating next steps in my career and I’m wondering how much my government degree is going to handicap me. I don’t really want to take the MBA route, but is a company going to hire a finance manager with a liberal arts degree? Would love to hear from others who have similar backgrounds (or who know of others with similar backgrounds). Thanks!
I am going to graduate as an Econ major and I am currently at a top BB. My school has an undergrad target business school, but I didn't get in. My econ degree will be a BA rather than a BS. Depends on your school, because a lot of target schools do not have finance/business degrees for undergrads.
What school did you go to?
Top public. Not sure if you would consider it a “target” but every major IB probably does at least some recruiting on-campus.
What is your end game? Feel like the answer differs depending on where you would like to end up.
Not sure tbh still trying to figure that out. Along those lines, I’m trying to figure out which jobs will be open to me, given my background.
