how to break into Banking or PE as an experienced professional (2 years) of work experience?

Hi guys,

I'm looking for advice on how to break-into banking or PE as an experienced professional? (I know this topic has probably been talked about a lot, but wouldn't mind some additional advice) I've spent the past two and half years working at a Big 4 in their mid-market corporate finance group and have passed the CPA and CFA exams. I'm looking to make a jump now that I'm about to qualify for my CPA. Should I just start e-mailing a lot of alumni from my university and individuals that use to work in my company? Or should I try to apply to postings for experienced professionals? What is the process like to get into these places for an experienced hire? I talked to one of my friends who recently jumped into banking and they asked him to build a model and make a presentation over a 24 hour period on top of the work he had to do... how do I prepare for this? I've heard the process is similar for PE. Are there any resources? Should I sign up for one of those modelling courses? What is the process usually like?

Thanks so much for your help! Greatly appreciate it.
