How to Defer Summer Analyst Placement

Hi guys,

==++What is the best way I can ask the bank for a deferral for my SA position for a year or 6 months (to their winter program)?++==

1) I'm a recent grad. I might have a placement at my university (regional A-list) to do some work to help pay bills. It's important work for various reasons.

2) I also have some good things going on the side.

3) I may get the SA offer for midyear that will run 10-12 weeks. This may overlap with my commitment with the university.

4) A bank internship is the best thing that could happen to me right now, but I don't want to betray my alma mater by departing for 2 important weeks of work, seeing as I made the commitment. (But if I really wanted to, note that the talk between current faculty and bank staff is poor). I strongly think my commitment and word is more important to me than just jumping ship. Especially bc my uni has been so good to me. So killing my uni work for the internship isn't really an option.

5) I'm thinking I should cancel the internship if they refuse to defer because my total package is strong and I don't want to betray people who entrust me at the university. I am confident that I could secure a winter placement in my region based on what I have.

Thanks a lot!

Just ask them whether you can be considered for a placement in the winter program - if not, call it outs. My friend has done something similar and the HR talked to the IBD people and they were fine with it. Since they were only recruiting for one, they didn`t need to go through the recruiting process at that point.
