how to get more bigger picture knowledge/ understand what MDs are talking about?

I am ashamed to admit this but I don’t understand so many things about the markets and pricing(spreads) or derivative transactions or fed policies. I don’t know if banks are making or losing money at this point. what are your best sources to get such information or how to educate myself?

Listen to bloomberg surveillance every morning (records before market opens, but they post the podcast around 11:30am) and read bloomberg / WSJ articles under the Markets / Economics categories, searching the terms of concepts you are unfamiliar with on wikipedia / google. Over the course of a few weeks, as you see the stories develop, you will understand more and more.
