How to Interpret Interviewer's Comment?

Had a first round OCR interview with a BB today for a summer analyst position. Tough to say of course, but I think that it went pretty well. It was with an MD and an analyst. At the end of the interview, as I was about to get up and leave, the MD said to me "real quick, where are you in the process with other firms? I assume you're interviewing elsewhere as well?" Obviously theres no black and white interpretation of this, but I'm curious whether I could interpret this as a positive sign that I'll get a superday offer. Thanks for your input!

unlikely that it's any indicator of how well you did during your interview. I think the MD was just curious about where other firms were in the recruiting process and was concerned that better or more popular firms are faster in the process at your school and are therefore taking the top talent before his firm gets a chance to interview them. but i'm sure you did fine, good luck!

Thanks for the response. I initially thought that might be the case, but I don't think he needed to figure out where other firms were in their processes. Earlier in the interview, he specifically mentioned to me that he is good friends with managing directors at other banks - If he wanted to find out, he could have asked them, or the numerous candidates who he interviewed before me today.

he might be good friends with MDs at other banks but why would he reach out to them to ask about their hiring process? there's a high chance they aren't involved at all with recruiting at your school and would have to ask HR, so why would he make them go through all of that when he could just ask you, a kid from the school that can sum it up so much faster? and maybe he just thought of the question on the spot when he asked you it. maybe he did ask candidates before but just wanted another response. maybe he didn't like you as a candidate and just wanted to get information out of you that would be helpful for the firm.

I really think you are overthinking this question and it has no indication of whether or not you'll get the superday. during the SA process, kids are frequently asked where else they're interviewing and what their process is with other firms. This is not a special case and I doubt you will find someone on this forum who has felt confident about moving on to the next round or getting an offer at a firm because they were asked this common question.
