Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know about this year's intern class:

  1. Progress and Experience:

    • Interns are about a month into their internships, and many are reflecting on their experiences so far. Some have mentioned learning a lot and feeling positive about their performance and staffings.
  2. Midsummer Reviews:

    • Interns are preparing for their midsummer reviews, which can be a critical point in their internships. It's important to take feedback constructively and avoid arguing, as it can be challenging to recover from a bad review.
  3. Work Hours:

    • The hours can be intense, with some interns working late into the night. This is a common experience in investment banking internships, and adjusting to the long hours is part of the process.
  4. Team Dynamics:

    • There are concerns about the virtual work environment affecting team dynamics. Some interns feel isolated and less prepared compared to previous classes who had in-person experiences.
  5. Future Prospects:

    • Interns are also thinking about their future in the industry. Some are considering whether they want to return if offered a full-time position, while others are reflecting on whether the internship met their expectations.

Interns are all about the same every year... motivated, smart kids, the bottom 20% will realize it's not for them and self-sort out like they do every year, but on average they are roughly the same every time. No reason to believe the 23 vs 24 interns would be materially different.

I guess the 2021 FT class was a bit weaker because of their lack of internship, but other than that it's just the same... every generation since the Romans has said those behind them are lazy/work less, just part of growing up. but the interns are not, as a class, better or worse year to year.

Seems about half of them actually have a head on their shoulders, and the other half is clueless
