HYS Law to PJT RSSG?
I was wondering if it’s possible / likely to break into a top RX shop like PJT if you go to a top law school (have some prior finance experience)

Not a chance
Why not?
From his post story seems like a frosh / prospect so not sure if he knows the specifics.
Pretty sure a lot of the associates at PJT RSSG have JDs since they don’t do any A2A in that group
.
Yes it's possible. Probably not a top post-law exit though right? Especially at an HYS level
It beats big law if you only look at pay
Why? It's one of the top banking groups on the street. What else competes with that out of law school other than the top few big law firms?
I wonder which route gives you more shit, A2A or staying at law school for 3 years and getting stressed out for recruiting
Pretty sure most PJT RSSG associates are from law schools not even HYP
Yeah Princeton law school has shitty placement rates
Literally 0%
I'm at PJT M&A...ignore my title I'm not an ASO1. A JD is definitely not required in the group, browsing LinkedIn for 2 minutes will tell you that. I know a few RSSG guys that did a JD/MBA dual degree, but it's certainly not a pre-req though. FWIW the few guys in my class in the RSSG group just got MBAs. The group as a whole is pretty small, think there's about ~40 total. They only take like 3 associates per year, and there's no A2As...analyst exit opps are the best on the street, so no love lost there.
Would applying with a pure JD put you at a disadvantage for summer associate recruiting?
If you don't have prior finance/business experience, then yeah most likely. You're competing with a couple hundred highly qualified candidates with relevant backgrounds & credentials...

I feel like going to Kirkland, LW or something would be better than the hassle of making up some story for rssg even though it’s the best fitting group
