I Blame Lazard

I was terribly devastated hearing details of our summer analyst's subway tragedy from a colleague this morning. It was also extremely disappointing to learn that Lazard was trying to keep the news under wraps and has yet to issue a public statement. Instead, cover up stories of "she wasn't actually returning from the office," and "she didn't drink enough water / got dehydrated," have been floating around our office. The reality is, despite whether or not these claims have any merit, investment banks' (especially LAZ) whose very cultural essence fosters environments of stress and anxiety, are entirely at blame. It should come as no surprise that those in banking are more susceptible to work induced heart failures and panic attacks than any other career, so it's pathetic to hear that something like late night transportation (which is fucking tax deductible) is considered taboo. As for you screaming MDs that invoke fear and terror into the analysts, there's a special place in hell reserved for people like you. Don't think you're any less at blame here.

We do, but management scrutinizes every purchase and makes the juniors feel "guilty" in doing so. I'm not even sure if interns have expense accounts...

Agreed!!

Also, whoever said she was only returning from a sports game, the accident occurred at Grand Central Station, aka, adjacent to Rockefeller Center.

Don't get me wrong -- I'm well aware of the cases at GS TMT, Moelis, BAML London and others where workplace culture was a direct driver of a junior banker's death but this just seems like an unfortunate accident. The fucked part as I've seen people on here and irl talk about this is that the minute people figured out a banking intern died, it's almost like they're hoping Lazard had something to do with it. Maybe it's for gossip or maybe its because they think it'll bring around positive changes for junior bankers if the bank was somehow at fault or could be blamed, but seems pretty disrespectful to her team, staffer, etc. to spread the narrative that she died bc of work when there's literally no evidence to suggest that.

Controversial

You’re a moron. She died because Lazard wasn’t willing to comp Ubers back from a sponsored event. Whether they give interns shit on expense reports is a culture issue and different topic.

Although it has been confirmed that she was returning from a Mets game, it is a tragic occurrence regardless

Prayers for Helen’s family and friends

Knew her personally and can heart felty say a grand fuck off to anyone at Lazard trying to cover it up or people theorizing just so they can add in their fucking opinion on banking or Lazard. It was someone's life. Please respect the family.
