I cannot join Analyst training due to Visa issues

Just found out where I will have my analyst training (NYC). I am from MEA.

Unfortunately, due to my background, I will have it hard to get a visitor visa well ahead of the start date. Could take several months and most likely at least 6 months based on similar cases online.

How should I reveal this to my team / HR? Will they cancel my employment contract?

Good question, well we only found out about the start dates today, ~3months from the intro days. In previous years, the analyst program would start in London, this is the first time analysts start in NYC. If I had known about this before, I would have applied to another bank

The visitor visa has been backlogged and has a large waiting time from what I have heard irrespective of the country.

Idk if some other visa is required for training though.

That would be the ideal solution as I dont want to lose out a year. Is this common tho? Im afraid that I will be the only one asking for this in a class of 500+

I mean if you can't get a B1/B2 visa in time you can't get it in time. I doubt they'll make you sit out an entire year for that. Heck there's people that start "off-cycle" that don't get any training. This is something out of your hand and any good company will understand. Specially because your work office is not the country where you aren't getting a visa for.

Is it really that many people? Maybe globally, but certainly not for EMEA, I believe the analyst class is really small this year hence why they can afford to send us to NYC when previously we were in London. Came as a big shock today.

I don’t think this is a big deal. Just check with HR. They’ll probably have you physically in your home office and attend virtually

This but also, try emailing the consulate and explaining your case. Make sure to attach your acceptance letter. They make exceptions sometimes and might give you an earlier interview date. No guarantees but worth a shot!

Honestly, this doesn't matter at all. HR will just give you a zoom link or you will just be asked to not attend/attend a later cycle.

It just sucks since you don't get the experience with your cohort.
