IB 1st yr Analyst struggle

WSO community I’m here to seek some help: I am a first year analyst at a BB and have started the job for a few months but have been low key struggling so far, specific points are below - 1. On a live sell side and there’s a million emails coming from consultants, third party and our own seniors… and I just always find it hard to follow what’s going on and understand the business that we are helping to sell 2. Constantly worry that I just have a shit memory (possibly due to stress and a lack of sleep) & shit at understanding stuff & a shit banker: For example During meeting I alw try my best to pay attention but due to a lack of understanding of what the management was trying to say I ended up writing down bs or during CIP page creation I realized the analysts above me would alw have in mind what the seniors wanted / preferred and have a very good idea of what’s mentioned previously / what’s important but I find myself forgetting / having to go back to previous materials to double check which becomes time consuming and it’s impossible to keep track when you have other projects ongoing. Has anyone been in this situation before or can give some advice on how to improve on the above ?

Regarding busy projects - I find it helpful to just do workstreams status at end of each day by mail (e.g. teaser - waiting for X). You can also send it to the team and it will help everyone or they’ll correct you if you missed anything.

Regarding keeping track in meetings - take notes. Get to the levels of notes taking that they are ready-to-send the second the meeting ends w/o post-meeting editing required. Compare your notes with other analysts on the projects.
