IB Associate to Sales
I’m a current post-mba associate and have realized that the portion of IB I like is the relationship management. I realize that eventually that’s the whole job but I don’t see myself sticking it out to MD. I think I’d like to pivot to a sales role. Has anyone else done this? What do you sell? I’ve thought about s&t or asset management sales but I’m not sure how hard that pivot would be.
Private Banking is perfect fit for you! Look into it. Should be a really easy pivot.
Are you in PB?
Yes I'm - JPM PB. They help you build your book and brand name opens a lot of doors.
How does PB differ from PWM?
More so at the junior level
PWM is the place for you
The hard part is building a book or finding someone looking to retire.
Private banking might be a better option.
Are you at a BB or EB, and what group are you in ? I ask, because fundraising for PE firms might be just what you’re looking for in a career. Evercore PCA or PJT. There is also some cool sales roles in PE
MM currently but used to be at a BB. Cover tech.

Other than fundraising, what other sales roles are there in PE?
That’s pretty much it at the good firms. Blackstone and Carlyle are two firms I know that pay their Wholesalers well.
