IB -> Buyside, Internal Logistics of Search Firms

Not sure if anyone on this sight will have a complete answer, but after speaking with a number of headhunters I became curious. Do they rank / keep detailed notes on each candidate they speak to? I understand the normal process of when one of their clients reaches out to kick a process off, they'll reach out to their candidate base to gauge interest, but what happens beyond that? Will they tell firms "Hey I think xyz is a really strong candidate" in advance? On the flip side, if you have a sub-par introductory call, will they put in the notes to avoid you in the future? I get that certain characteristics play into the chances of them reaching out (bank, school, test scores, etc.), but when those are constant is there anything else they really do?
