Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips to enhance your resume and improve your chances of securing an offer for Spring Week in IB M&A:

  1. Highlight Relevant Coursework and Certifications:

    • Emphasize your accounting and finance coursework.
    • Obtain and list financial modeling certifications, such as those from Wall Street Prep or Breaking Into Wall Street, to demonstrate your technical skills.
  2. Gain Practical Experience:

    • Seek internships or part-time roles in finance-related fields, even if they are not directly in investment banking. Experience in areas like corporate finance, accounting, or financial analysis can be valuable.
    • Participate in finance-related student organizations or investment clubs at Warwick to show your active interest and involvement in the field.
  3. Develop Technical Skills:

    • In addition to financial modeling, ensure you are proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software.
    • Work on building a strong understanding of valuation techniques, M&A processes, and financial statement analysis.
  4. Networking:

    • Leverage LinkedIn and the WSO LinkedIn group to connect with professionals in the industry. Networking can sometimes open doors that a resume alone cannot.
    • Attend finance-related events, webinars, and career fairs to meet industry professionals and learn more about the field.
  5. Tailor Your Resume:

    • Use a clean, professional format. Templates from WSO can be very helpful.
    • Focus on quantifiable achievements and specific responsibilities in any past roles or projects.
    • Include a strong objective statement that clearly states your career goals and interest in M&A.
  6. Prepare for Interviews:

    • Practice common technical and behavioral interview questions. Resources like the 400 questions guide and WSO guides can be very helpful.
    • Be ready to "Walk Me Through Your Resume" with a clear, concise story that highlights your journey, interests, and why you are a good fit for M&A.

By following these tips, you can strengthen your resume and improve your chances of securing an offer for Spring Week in IB M&A. Good luck!

Nothing will, by itself, "suffice". I've posted something similar so I'll re-paste it below which I hope is helpful - good luck!

___

1) Be involved in finance / economics-related societies and attend their events, particularly career-related

2) Sounds like you didn't do a Spring Week which you should have (unless you have a 4-year course - I presume you would've mentioned it otherwise). Don't make the same mistake with internships. Apply early and apply broadly

3) Get a role / leadership position in a society, or found one

4) Network A LOT - try to find people who you have something in common with (same hometown, university, course, etc.) and be personal

5) As far as summer courses go maybe look at WSO or BIWS - not a formal course as such, but something to educate and prepare you for assessment centres, and indicate some interest in the sector

6) Find some extra-curricular (ideally, relevant) activities for yor CV

7) Some of the societies I mentioned above run investment or stock-pitching programs. It's been a while since I graduated so, honestly, I don't know how these work, but I see them increasingly on CVs

8) You probably stand a good chance with Consulting so do explore this too.

I probably forgot some things so hopefully others add.
