IB scene in Turkey - any two cents?
I'm interested in the high finance (IB, PE, HF) scene in Turkey and there is absolutely no content whatsoever about the field anywhere on the internet. Currently in my sophomore year majoring in econ with a decent GPA at the top uni. Generally curious about hours, comp, culture, competitiveness etc. Is there anyone that can help?
Also heard about the stories of direct recruitment from the London offices of GS and JPM but just rumours, couldn't confirm. Is this true?
Thanks for the help in advance.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, I can provide some insights into the high finance scene in Turkey, although specific details about the Turkish market are not directly mentioned in the context provided. However, I can infer from the general knowledge of the industry and the information available:
Hours, Compensation, and Culture: The investment banking industry is known for its demanding hours, often requiring long work weeks that can exceed 80 hours. Compensation is typically high to reflect the demanding nature of the job, but it can vary greatly by region and firm. The culture in high finance is often described as fast-paced, competitive, and intense, with a strong focus on performance.
Competitiveness: Breaking into high finance is generally competitive, regardless of the region. A strong academic background, relevant internships, and networking are crucial components to securing a position in IB, PE, or HF.
Regarding direct recruitment from London offices of Goldman Sachs (GS) and JPMorgan (JPM) to Turkey, the context does not provide specific information about such recruitment practices. However, it is not uncommon for large global banks to recruit for their international offices, including locations like Turkey. These recruitments can sometimes be direct or through internal transfers.
For more detailed and Turkey-specific information, it would be beneficial to network with professionals in the field, reach out to alumni from your university who are working in high finance, or try to secure internships that could provide exposure to the Turkish IB, PE, and HF scene. Additionally, keep an eye on the WSO forums, as new threads and discussions about various regions, including Turkey, may arise.
