IB to Corporate Finance Process

Didn't find many responses in the CF forum, so thought to post here as it is more active as well. I am interested in going into the corporate route longer term, either into corporate dev of a larger company or corporate finance roles in general. How does the process work to move over from IB to the corporate side, at what level does this happen and what kind of progression is there after the move? Seems like PE/HF is the most talked about exit, but curious to learn more about this as well. I have seen a lot of associate or VP levels make the move, but is there a straightforward process after a two year analyst stint through headhunters, or is it mainly an individual driven process to apply as roles at different companies start to pop up? Also, how does going into IB then moving to corporate compare to starting in either the corporate finance division of a company or starting in a development/rotation program and moving up instead?
