Impossible Transition?

In finding people to network with I've seen some people that have either done their two years of being an analyst—and some summer analysts—which have then transitioned to being a MD or Principal. Is this even possible lol, it seems ludicrous at first glance. Just wondering if these are typos or are some people actually doing this.

yes its not an often talked about track but people sometimes do 2 years analyst > 2 years principal teacher / 2 years doctor of medicine depending on what undergrad they studied.

lol the only time that i've seen or heard about this is Emmanuel Macron (President of France if you don't know) got promoted from Associate (maybe even analyst) to Partner in 2 years at Rothschild. He had some role in government before that I assume gave him a lot of access that helped them out on deals.

Funny story, during my internship some MD was visiting from another office and some analysts told he got promoted from Analyst to MD and that was super rare. My dumbass thought he got promoted directly, but what they actually meant that he didn't leave at all or go to business school, etc. just went all the way up the ladder Analyst -> Associate -> VP -> MD at the same bank. So maybe that applies to your situation, too.

two quotes from this article that are gold: “He was the guy who would constantly say ‘thank you’,” a former colleague said. “He didn’t know what ebitda [earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation] was. He didn’t try to hide it. And instead of looking it up in a corporate finance book, he asked around, which was disarming.”

'On the Atos deal, Mr Macron “had a fairly junior role at the time — he would be asked to redo the financial models on Excel, the basics,” recalled an adviser. '
