Incoming Analyst Linkedin

I see people put their current position on LinkedIn as "Incoming Analyst at ..." on Linkedin, as well as posting about how they accepted the offer. Few questions. Is this the way to do it? I always thought you would wait until the internship started. If you shouldn't add the job title should you still post an update? or Vise versa? If you do NOT post, will your recruiters think you do not care?I always figured just wait until later, at least on the job title. Would love to hear opinions.

Might be a stupid question but how do I do this? Is this just general notifications or a specific type?

1) LinkedIn 2) "Me" top right 3) "Settings & Privacy" 4) Scroll down to "Share job changes, education changes..." 5) Select No

My opinion on this is that you shouldn't put "Incoming" anywhere on your Linkedin since you don't actually have the job yet. For SA specifically it doesn't add value it's just kinda a brag, but imagine if you were an incoming Cantor SA...it's real embarrassing to have to get rid of that on your Linkedin after everybody knows and you've made a post, etc. I guess for FT it might add some value?

  1. Don't do the 'Incoming' thing. It has undertones of desperate.
  2. You can add the designation with a future data.
  3. IMO, don't do any of the above two. Wait for your internship to get started and then add the thing. It's not like recruiters will go ga ga on you just because you got a summer job. The benefit of having your profile pop up when a recruiter is searching for 'Summer Intern XYZ Bank' will only yield any material results if you are actually done with the internship.
