Insurance Commercial Underwriting vs Study Abroad Internship

Hi,

I am a current sophomore at a non-target. This sophomore summer, I have an offer for commercial insurance underwriting at one of the largest insurance firms. I am contemplating this vs doing another school's study abroad internship program. The credits would transfer, and historically people I know w/ similar stats at that school seem to get much more relevant internships from it. (ex: CS credit risk management, boutique LevFin)

Money is not an issue, but the study abroad internship would only be 5 weeks long. Would studying abroad (which is tons of fun)+ internship be better than insurance underwriting for junior summer recruiting?

Thanks

Cannot say which one will look better for a recruiter. I think they are both really awesome professional endeavors and will lead to a great story down the road. I have to say that I would go with the study abroad/ internship combo. Sounds like a ton of fun and will serve as a great addition to your resume. I also think studying abroad is one of the greatest opportunities students have. Do it while you can! Hope this helps =]

Charlie Chaplin entered a Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest in Monte Carlo and came in third. Now that's a story. This... is something else.

Do you want to go into commercial insurance underwriting for a career? If yes, then pick that. If you're not sure, do you have any other internships?

Reason I ask is because you only have one summer left to get an internship so if you don't do it this summer, you have to get a really strong one next summer.

Does your school offer academic internships or co-ops during the year?

Does your school offer winter or fall/spring study abroad?

It's really about timing. I never went on a study abroad and regret it. If this is your only opportunity and you're not dead set on working in commercial insurance, I'd lean towards the study abroad.
