Interesting Situation - Advice Welcomed

I am a graduate that is starting work at HSBC RBWM in June. I have work experience in M&A at a MM Investment bank. I have a very solid GPA from a top-25 school. I have a VERY strong connect that is a EVP in RB arm of HSBC. The program I'm in will last for 10-weeks after which a full-time offer will be procured. I want to switch into the IBD and want to know what the steps I should take are. What should I do to position myself to lateral into that program? (My program will end in Late August - Early September)

How is this interesting?

Network with the ibd early on, prove yourself within your own department, then inquire about moving when appropriate.

Haters gonna hate

Thank you for the advice. Do you think that the EVP connect in RB will be a valuable asset? More importantly how do you think I can leverage that?

Thanks again

a bajillion kids take a wealth management internship position in hopes of securing a full time investment banking job. It's an okay strategy, but certainly not the best. Knowing someone is better than not knowing someone, but it'll hardly be enough on it's own to get an investment banking job - at best it'll get your foot in the door for an interview.

There's really no other advice to give except do a good job during the internship, study the investment banking shit they ask on interviews, and network with the groups you want to join.
