Internal mobility at EB's (Evercore/Lazard)
Got an offer for a non-M&A group at an elite boutique- am curious as to what internal mobility looks like at these firms? Are there opportunities to switch to a coverage group after 1-2 years?

ECM?
Bumpppp
Very difficult into M&A / Rx groups. Main reason is because everyone is trying to lateral in from ECM
Depending on the group you could eke out a career in capital markets making a ton of money with chiller hours than EB coverage. Pure advisory shop cap markets can also be more interesting because you skip most of the boring repetitive shit.
Not saying don’t gun for coverage, just saying don’t totally write off EB cap markets.

Any insights on EVR/PJT ECM? Are exit opps different from BB cap markets given they are more advisory-focused?

Can someone elaborate on capital markets at a boutique and what about the work process is less repetitive?
Just a guess. But less coordination with syndicate/risk/etc. and more “go raise XYZ at this price”

also curious
Interning at one of those this summer, and I’ve been working with a few people who switched from the internal research group to being on the M&A side of things after a year so it seems possible.
On a related note, does anyone know how easy it is to move from a satellite office of an EB (m&a) to ny?
Is it secondaries? Have a few friends in PCA at EVR/LAZ and apparently WLB is much better than in M&A with more top bucket bonuses given higher fees per head

Anyone have thoughts on switching from a non-M&A group to an M&A one? Genuinely seen it happen before but unsure about the process
