Internal strategy and M&A at a BB
Did a pretty extensive search but there wasn't too much information out there. Can anyone provide some color on the pay/lifestyle/exit opps at internal strategy/M&A desks at BBs?
It seems like at some banks, this desk is more of a back office role with very good hours but minimal bonuses. While at other firms (like MS's FSE or GS's internal strategy/M&A group), these groups really shape the direction of the firm, work borderline banking hours and get paid like bankers. At some firms, these groups have a fair share of ex-BB bankers and MBB consultants.
sounds like the same role as business development / corporate finance roles at F500. you're doing the same thing, definitely not back office except obviously focused on financial institutions. hours are quite good, you may be able to lateral to FIG IB if you play your cards right
Know a WF IB MD that was in the internal M&A group (was in Corp Dev somewhere else before that, not sure if banking related or not). Loved the hours while he was in the internal group, 50 hours/wk unless there was a deal.
Works more on MM transactions, but was able to transition to the IB side.
Sounds like and interesting gig
