Investment Banking lifestyle
Im currently starting a summer analyst role at an Investment Bank. Some people tell me it’s impossible to survive without being addictive to drugs in IB and that worries me a lot. Im someone who has never been into these sorts of things and like to staw away from this. I still want to progress in my career and feel like im very passionate to excel in my career but these thoughts push me back in what I’m persuing. Can someone share their thoughts on this please
I am only an intern but from I saw from my analysts, there is not much drugs used, except for recreational use. People survive the analyst years by sleeping as much as possible, eating healthy, and supplementing that with a balanced dose of vitamins
That’s great to hear. Sometimes the stories push me back. Im also going to be a summer intern but really want to excel in my career. However, I do not want get involved in drugs etc
the drugs are highly over-exaggerated, you'll be fine just do what the other guy said and if you can try to workout too and remember to make time for friends and family.

I mean this is just a white collar job with higher pay and higher stress/hours. No one ever has these assumptions about lawyers or consultants idk why ppl think this is a thing for bankers

Addiction to $$$ is stronger than any drugs and that’s what propels most people to survive
receiving money (or the idea that you'll receieve money) releases the same degree of dopamine as if using cocaine, so what you say is not a joke, it's pretty real
If you actually think there is that much use on the job… you shouldn’t even try. Clearly not very smart
One thing I know, Ive set my boundaries and not getting into drugs is one of them. Im sure I can progress even without them lol
Drugs are pretty common at my firm. Just makes us more efficient

Second this. Seems like those who succeed long term are the super disciplined freaks who are able to follow their workout regimen and eat clean no matter what.
There’s a lot of drugs where I work, I just think me not doing it gives me an edge tbh.
