Is finance doomed: RIP Deutsche

Hello WSO,

A moment of silence for the equity desks at Deutsche.

But on a serious note where is the future in finance. Commissions have been cut back, compensation has decreased, and ai and machines are slowly taking over the trading world. I cannot seem to find the prosperity in finance as it was like before pre-crash.

Where should someone enter if they don’t want their job to be slashed in the next 5 years ? What areas of finance are “safe” and have some life left ? Are any areas of finance booming right now ? Or is all of finance doomed and you should become an entrepreneur, small business owner, or in tech.

Would love some insight

This joke isn't really funny anymore considering how many people lost their jobs and the implications that has for them as well as their families. Not everyone who works at DB is stupid. Their issues are the result of a number of things, namely mismanagement from the top.

I know a lot of intelligent and hardworking people who lost their job through no fault of their own. I know this is a popular joke in finmeme sector and especially among clueless college students. Given the fact that you're a sophomore in college who has never worked at a bank I think you should drop that joke from your arsenal.

So it follows that if you work there you are stupid? By that logic everyone who worked at LTCM is stupid. Spare me the obvious that DB hasn't yet suffered LTCM's fate.

I'm not defending the bank, I think leadership is inept. I just don't find the finmemes funny anymore now that people actually had to come home and explain to their wives/kids that they were let go. I've seen the fallout from Bear/Lehman, it's not fun for anyone involved. This is ofcs on a smaller scale, but no one should be made fun of for being laid off.

Huh? I was just responding to the headline "Is Finance Doomed"

Definitely not funny that people have been getting made fun of.
